My brother has done extensive research into our family tree. What he found was pretty remarkable. My dad's side of the family basically arrived in this land in the 1630's and my mom's in the early 1700's, mostly from the British Isles. We have Powhatan & Choctaw blood in our veins. Some of my ancestry had to experience the 'Trail of Tears'. I have 26 known relatives that fought for the South, some even slave holders. Privates up to Colonels in the Confederate Army. But wait, we had Yanks in the past also ... Ohio, Illinios.
I'm proud of my past. I have researched the Civil War intently and the causes and affects are not what you read about in mainstream. Remember, the winners always write history and once those generations that actually experienced that or any conflict die off, who's is to know any different? But I'm not here today to relive or try to explain about that conflict. I want to look at our now open borders.
Where to begin? The USA used to have some of the most lenient laws in the world for immigration. Now it's a free-for-all on the southern borders. It's funny that the northern borders are still enforced and the Canadians are cool! Double standards . . . There used to be a waiting period for those wishing to come here . . . a time for them to learn our language, laws, society & values, so that when they were finally allowed in, they weren't clueless and fit in easier.
That process is what regulated the flow of legal immigrants so they could be easily absorbed into American society. And that IS what this IS . . . American Society. If they wish to keep their culture 100% intact, then Stay in their country. The laws in place served as a check valve so that the systems in place didn't get overwhelmed. We could weed out the miscreants and criminals easily. Now with wide open borders, there is no check valve. No-one to regulate the flow . . . no-one to keep the gangs out, hell even terrorists could and probably have sneaked in.
Not only miscreants, but also the loads they are putting on all of our social systems. American citizens can't get the kind of help that illegals are allowed. And we pay for all of it . . . How the HELL is that fair to us who have been here for so long and worked so hard? I'm not against immigration, I'm not racist, I have lived, worked, swam, partied with many legals . . . no problem.
To me, it all seems politically driven, to purposely dilute the American way, votes, culture, language. And costs!! Everything in dual languages costs more, phones, paper printing etc etc.
We need to close and secure the borders now and enforced the laws already on the books. Go back to a controlled entry into this once wonderful country. As to the illegals already here? Well, they are criminals really, just as someone would be who broke into my house. Hell, I caught a guy in my house without permission and he eventually went to prison for a year for breaking and entering. As It Should've Been!!
There are estimates of upwards of over 20 million illegals in this country right now. I want to have them all deported, but there are innocents involved, who did nothing but live with their parents or family. I don't know the humane thing to do, though it troubles me immensely. The illegals DO make a negative impact on America because many are no more than leaches off our system. I can't afford it and then years from now and the real impact is felt, most will feel the same . . . though a little late. America that I grew up in is no longer . . . everything in your life is controlled, if only indirectly by Big Brother. I'm afraid our economy won't handle this onslaught and will collapse sometime. SAD,,, REA
